Once again we encountered someone who we “knew” from Encore a year ago.
Our service team tonight was led by Ariel Ripas, who I remember seeing on Encore, though he never served us that I recall. He confirmed he was working aboard Encore a year ago, in Cagney’s along with Maye.
Our meal was well-paced and the service up to the usual top standard. When I somehow allowed my dinner fork to go missing with the salad, another appeared without being asked for and before I needed it for my Porterhouse.
Appetizer
Shrimp cocktail. Balanced presentation, served at the proper temperature, with ample cocktail sauce and large, firm shrimp. Tasty!
Salad
No photo. Caesar salad. Average portion, good quality, I like their Caesar dressing. The croutons were light and tasty.
Entree
We were so involved in talking I almost forgot I intended to review! This is the Porterhouse, medium.
Taste was good, not the best I’ve had but why would one expect their best-ever steak on a ship? The temperature and juiciness of the meat was right, and it released from the bone well. I didn’t add salt, pepper or steak sauce, as the seasoning was just as I’d remembered !
The steamed broccoli and baked potato were, well, average.
We have chosen Cagney’s to be our SailAway night dinner tradition. First off, I’m a steak guy, I’d probably eat there every night we’re money not a consideration.
I had apple pie for dessert. I remember this being a cobbler before, am I remembering right? I like the presentation in the small dish like the broccoli. The plated presentation emphasized the size of the dessert…and pointed to one of the places I’ve seen other reviewers say they can tell NCL has cut cost. I agree.
