This weekend, I am driving from Wichita to New Orleans to do a ship inspection tour of the Norwegian Escape. She developed engine problems during the summer season which have slowed her down substantially, from max speed just short of 23kts to max speed of 18kts. This caused disruptions on the repo cruise, with ports being dropped and the ship getting in substantially late for the first sailing out of New Orleans. Each week since the ship has been late in and late out. In the featured image, you can see the wake behind the port side (in this image, right-side) engine is much weaker than the one from the starboard side. This doesn’t impact shift safety, just keeps it from sailing full speed.
What is a ship inspection?
See my post on Cruise Made EASY for what it’s all about. I’m familiar with Escape from our 2023 Fall Foliage cruise. But I’m taking the opportunity to get video of the ship for my YouTube channel as well as to see what I can find out about the propulsion status. Full report afterward on Cruise Made EASY!
