Behind the Scenes Tour

Unfortunately, this will have to be a “come back to it after the trip” post. I didn’t shoot nearly enough photos to make the post as detailed as I’d like. I shot videos instead, and will have to edit them when I get home, before I can upload them to the site.

Here are a few photos, though!

Foreground: Waiting to pick up a breakfast order. Background: other random galley activity.
Just a quick shot as we walked from one section of the galley to another.

Laundry: What is this?

A hint: for safety and cleanliness, soaps, etc are not added to the washers along with the laundry, through the doors in the front.

I wonder if all the clocks like that change ship time automatically, or if one of the things the crew has to do is change them? We’ve added an hour each sailing day.

Differences between the Latitudes BTS tour and the Paid One

The Latitudes tour is not as wide-ranging as the paid tour. What we saw on the Latitudes tour is all things that have direct customer-facing exposure: the galley, the backstage area, and the laundry. On Jade (and I presume other Jewel-class ships), this meant we were only on deck 6 mid-ship (galley, between the two main dining rooms), deck 6 forward (backstage), and deck 4 forward (laundry).

The paid behind-the-scenes tour, however, adds the bridge, the engine control room, and at least gives you a glance into the crew dining room and you get to walk down the I-95 (the central corridor through the crew area, generally on deck 4). In some of those areas photos aren’t allowed, but it’s still neat to see the more technical areas of the ship.
