Review: Le Bistro, NCL Jade 2025

I’ll start by saying this: I’ve never “gotten” French cuisine. We make the French restaurant one of our specialty experiences on most sailings, but I have yet to be truly impressed by the experience. That said, I have no complaints about the Le Bistro experience. I forgot to photo the menu, so I don’t know … Read more

Behind the Scenes Tour

Unfortunately, this will have to be a “come back to it after the trip” post. I didn’t shoot nearly enough photos to make the post as detailed as I’d like. I shot videos instead, and will have to edit them when I get home, before I can upload them to the site. Here are a … Read more

Day 1: Sailaway

Given that we had two ships (Norwegian Jade and Holland American’s Niew Amsterdam) boarding at the same time, I feel things in the San Diego cruise terminal were well-handled. I’d be happy to cruise out of here again. I was frustrated when I arrived, because I found the airport-adjacent cruise ship parking difficult to find. … Read more

Review: Cagney’s, NCL Jade 2025

One of our two must-do traditions on Day 1 of any NCL Cruise: The first mudslide and dining at Cagney’s. They have become immutable parts of our experience. The shrimp appetizer came out as expected. I thought it had been reduced by one shrimp from what I remembered on Escape two years ago, but I … Read more

We’re on Board!

It has been a rainy morning! But things are clearing somewhat. Rain, whatever…any day onboard is a good day!

A Crisp, Beautiful Start

Stepped out of the hotel to see this… Today is the longer drive, around 11.5 hours scheduled. With a stop in Flagstaff for lunch and the time zone change, I’m hoping to be into the hotel around 8:30 or 9pm.

Let the Trek Begin!

Although I enjoy driving, looking down the barrel of two 11-hour days on the road makes me yearn at least briefly for a transporter. It would have been cool to have gone to bed last night at home and woken up this morning in San Diego. But alas… Today’s drive I’ll be at my BNI … Read more

Review: Comfort Inn & Suites Baton Rouge South

Let me start by saying there’s nothing wrong with this hotel. It’s different, that’s all. I’ve not seen a hotel with hard flooring in the quote unquote living room. But I like that. Actually. it actually came out pretty well overall. As you can see by the photos the room is good size and has … Read more

Latitude Rewards Sapphire, Here We Come!

So, I did a thing…put a deposit down on a 7-day Greek Isles trip on Norwegian Gem October 3-10, 2027. It’ll be a triple added Latitude Rewards sailing, so we will be earning 4 points a day. So that makes our point accumulation look like this, based on what we have booked now: Current: 91 … Read more

T minus 1 Week

The grand adventure gets underway one week from this morning! Between now and then No Packing Jenga this time Since we are driving to San Diego rather than flying, we won’t have the Packing Jenga game…where we throw everything into the suitcases to get out of the house, then re-pack in the hotel to make … Read more

Before the Cruise…a tour of Escape

This weekend, I am driving from Wichita to New Orleans to do a ship inspection tour of the Norwegian Escape. She developed engine problems during the summer season which have slowed her down substantially, from max speed just short of 23kts to max speed of 18kts. This caused disruptions on the repo cruise, with ports … Read more
